'Villa Semlalia' is a modern house in a residential area situated within 10 minutes walk of the centre of Marrakech and sleeps up to 10 people.

Private, fenced pool , 2 roof terraces with views, one of which stretches to the snow covered Atlas mountains, this house is incredibly spacious and beautifully decorated and is an ideal location to discover Marrakech, probably even without the need to hire a car. It is about 10 minutes walk from the trendy and westernised Gueliz part of Marrakech, and comes with full services of a housekeeper/cook, who can cook breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The house comprises 1 master suite with a large en-suite bathroom, lounge area and a flat screen TV, 4 double bedrooms, 2 living rooms and a dining room. Air-conditioning and British satellite TV are in each bedroom.

Clients' comments

The villas was wonderful, the pictures really do not do it justice.....The villa was spotless, exceptionally well equipped and luxuriously furnished. Even it it was to be fully occupied there is plenty of room to get away from one another and you certainly would not feel that it was crowded, in fact there is so much room that if five couples stayed you could easily not see each other if that was what you wanted, even on the terraces you could have privacy. I believe that it is exceptional value for money, located in a very nice area which is convenient for the european quarter.

We had a great time in Marrakesh, the riad was superb and weather great. Many thanks for all your help, will highly recommend to anyone in the future.

The heavy entrance doors lead into a small cactus garden.

The front door leads through to a hallway with the kitchen on the right and a separate WC with a hand-basin, on the left.

5 Steps climb up to a large open plan dining area with a table seating 10 people. Large glass doors lead to the terrace, parallel to the street, with a fenced 8x4 swimming pool and a very attractive covered pool lounge with sofas and cushions.

Off the dining room to the left, 2 steps go down to a well equipped kitchen with small dining area.

From the dining room 4 steps lead to a spacious 'modern moroccan' style Air Conditioned TV (plasma) area with lots of comfortable sofas, cushions and coffee tables. There is a small balcony which overlooks the swimming pool.
Ajoining the TV area is a second sitting room with luxurious sofas around a fireplace.
Further steps up to a study/office area which overlooks the whole downstairs.

Steps from the entrance go past the living room and climb up to the first floor landing (13 steps) and corridor.

First Floor

Off the corridor - Bedroom 1 - double bed, air conditioning, satellite TV, fitted wardrobe. There is an independent 'venitian' shower room with sink and wc, off the corridor for both bedrooms.
Bedroom 2 - double bed wardrobe, air conditioning, TV.

Second floor

10 steps go up to the 2nd landing & corridor with windows overlooking the cul de sac and with a doorway leading to a large terrace (street side) with a wicker table and chairs.

The Master Suite - this is a very large room indeed, with a parquet floor, an enormous four poster canopy bed, a 'sitting area' with a comfortable sofa, a large TV, HI -FI ,a massage table, large fitted wardrobes, airconditioning, & Interphone for the front door. The large en-suite bathroom comprises of a Corner bath, walk in shower, brass sinks and wc.

Third floor

Another 9 steps lead up to third floor landing with 2 other bedrooms
Bedroom 3 - double bed, air conditioning, tv, wardrobes.

Bedroom 4 - double bed, air conditioning, TV, and a sofa

An independent shower room with a 'venetian' walk in shower sink, and wc is shared between the bedrooms.

From the third floor 8 more steps go up to the roof terrace with views of the snow covered Atlas mountains.

Off the kitchen corridor there are steps down to the maid's bedroom and bathroom. There is also a big garage that clients can use if they hire a car. Because the pool terrace is parallel to the street some noise is unavoidable.

Washing-machine
Fridge: American
Oven
Microwave
Electric kettle
Toaster.

The kitchen is very much the domaine of the live-in housekeeper/cook who works everyday and will be happy to cook for you (breakfast, lunch and dinner), and do the cleaning. According to the house owner her cooking is absolutely sumptuous! Obviously clients have to pay her for ingredients , and her taxi fare if she has to do a 'big shop'.

TV Satellite
Radio
CD
DVD
Hair dryer
Cot and High Chair available.

Garden furniture - sun loungers on the upper roof terrace and an outside covered lounge area next to the pool.

Car-Parking outside or in the garage (on request)

There is a small cactus garden upon entry to the house.

A 8mx4m fenced swimming pool (although the gaps in the fence are quite large so toddlers and young children should not be left alone by the pool) with roman steps going down.
A covered pool side 'lounge' with garden furniture.

A second floor terrace with garden furniture.

A roof terrace with views of the Atlas mountain and the street, large screens are available for added privacy.

Parking on the street or the use of the house garage on request, for parking of a hire car.

Main attractions

South of the Place Jemaa el-Fna, there are palaces, gardens, and museums, such as Dar Si Said, dedicated to the arts and folk crafts of Morocco.

On twisting alleyways nearby is Dar Tiskiwin, an elegant townhouse, open to the public as a museum and full of Moroccan and sub-Saharan wonders collected by Bert Flint, a Dutch expatriate.

The Place Jemaa el-Fna - Marrakech is always a little bit of everything: djellabas and babouches, bright colours, energy, heat. Once you've wandered around the stalls, gorged on all the mouthwatering food and watched everything on the square, it's time to retreat to one of the many cafes and watch the goings-on from a distance. In terms of views, though not of food, the best are the rooftop cafes. From here you can see the entire square of Djemaa el Fna: the smoky and brightly lit food stalls are the centre, but circles of locals form all around the square watching storytellers and actors, and around the edges are the juice stalls selling fresh orange juice. On the northern side are the souks - full of anything you could possibly want to buy, and lots of things you definitely don't! There are tourists aplenty in Djemaa el-Fna and it's tempting to dismiss it all as a commercial show, but the stories are all in Arabic and Berber and plenty of locals come here. The monkeys, snake charmers and fortune tellers seem purely for the benefit of tourists though and you might find one evening here is enough - although most vistors come back night after night.

WHERE TO EAT

Dar Moha, 81 Dar el Bacha, 38-64-00, set in a garden around a pool, and Dar Zellij, 1 Kaasour Sidi Ben Slimane, 38-26-27, in a fastidiously renovated 17th century mansion with carved cedar ceilings and hand-cut zellij tile, specialise in fine, traditional Moroccan fare. Multi-course dinners run €25-€30, and both restaurants have wine lists.

Casa Lalla, Rue Riad Zitoune Lakdime, 16 Derb Jamaa, 42-97-57, offers a set-price menu created by Michelin-starred British chef Richard Neat. There is one sitting at 8 p.m., and only 14 people are served each night, so the required reservations are hard to come by. The price per person is about €25, and diners may bring in their own wine.

Le Pavillon, 47 Derb Zaouia, 38-70-40, and Le Foundouk, 55 El Moukef Souk Hal Fassi Kat Bennahid, 37-81-90, serve French food and wine. Both are in the heart of the medina. Dinner about €25.

Conveniently, in the street there is a small grocer, a cafe, and a pharmacy.

A few minutes walk away, there are delights like the smart 'Cafe de la Poste', delicious continental breakfasts are served in designer surroundings. One can just sit on the terrace watching the world go by, sipping freshly squeezed orange juice or drinking mint tea. Very good restaurant for lunch.

The Marrakech Plaza is also just a few minutes away with western designer labels like Armani contrasting with the artisinal traditional wares in the Medina souks.

Large, French style supermarkets are only 10 minutes drive, if wanting to stock up on provisions.

There are 3 excellent Golf courses in Marrakech. Excursions are possible and easy to arrange to the waterfalls at the foothills of the Atlas, trips to the dessert or the beautiful Essaouira port.
